You’re getting ready for a big move and you need to connect with a car shipping company to get your vehicle to your destination. But how do you choose? Google can help you make a list with zillions of choices — but how do you know which one to pick?
There are indeed some auto transport scams out there. Choosing a reliable, professional car transport company can make all the difference. Take a look at the signs that show you’ve found a car shipping company that will get your vehicle where you want it, when you want it, at the right price.
1. They Have a Good Website
Is the website of your auto shipping company easy to use and customer-friendly? That’s a sign of good customer service. A website filled with typos (and especially one that asks you to book immediately rather than offering to give you a quote) is a warning sign.
2. They Ask a Lot of Questions When They Give You a Quote
Yes, your quote should be free, with no obligation. But there’s more to it than that. A reputable auto transport company is going to ask a lot of questions before giving you a quote, including:
- Your pickup and drop off addresses
- How far your car needs to be shipped
- Any special requirements you have (an enclosed shipping vehicle for a classic car, for instance)
- Your vehicle’s make and model
- The condition of your vehicle
Don’t do business with any company that won’t give you a quote without a shipping commitment — and don’t do business with any company that doesn’t ask all these questions to make sure their quote is accurate.
3. They Don’t Push You
A reputable car transport company gives you the time you need to compare quotes from multiple companies and to make your decision. Good car shipping companies don’t have any trouble filling their car haulers, so you should be wary of any company that pressures you to make a fast decision.
4. Their Pricing Is Transparent
Your car shipping company should be able to explain every aspect of the quote they give you, so you know exactly what you’re paying for. They should also be willing to explain what you can do to change the quote (choosing a different type of car hauler, for instance, or picking up your car from a lot rather than asking for door-to-door delivery).
5. You Can Talk to a Real Person
Yes, the process of getting a quote is often automated — which is fine — but make sure you can get your questions answered by a live human being. If you can’t reach an actual person when you’re making your reservation, you may find it even harder to reach one if there’s a problem while your vehicle is in transit.
6. They Don’t Ask for Wire Transfers
You probably want to pay for your auto transport by check or credit card to have a record of the transaction. If a car shipping company instead asks for payment via wire transfer, take a second look. A wire transfer doesn’t have the same consumer protections that credit and debit cards provide, which could make it easy for a dishonest company to take your cash and never respond to you again.
If you’re looking for a reliable car transport company, give us a call (and talk to a real person!). We’re happy to provide you with transparent quotes and to answer all your questions.
